BOS Award to an Orthodontic Technician for Distinguished Service
Eligibility 
Any Orthodontic Technician nominated by the OTA.
Details
This award is deigned to recognise a dental technician for an outstanding contribution.
Value 
A certificate and bowl.
Timescale
One nomination will be sought annually from the OTA, along with a request for citation outlining the reasons for the nomination by March 31st. If the nomination is confirmed then the winner will be presented with the award at the BOC during the BOS prize presentation ceremony.

Award for outstanding contribution to the field of orthodontic technology

The OTA is proud to announce its new award for outstanding contribution to the field of orthodontic technology.  This award will be presented at the prestigious British Dental Association awards dinner in May 2017 by the OTA’s President Dr Rye Mattick.

Nominations will be accepted until 31st January 2017. You can nominate anyone who you deem to have given an outstanding         contribution to the field of orthodontic technology. They do not need to be a member of the orthodontic technicians association or a technician to be nominated.


BOS Student Technician Award
Opening Date for Applications 1/3/16, Closing Date for Applications 30/6/16 and Closing Dates for Entries 31/7/16. 
Eligibility 
Open to all students undertaking a recognised first level dental technology course within the UK. It is also open to recently qualified technicians, qualified for less than two years at the time of the competition.
Details
The competition will consist of three main items:
a. a set piece of technical work to be completed on models provided. Download prescription HERE
b. a free choice orthodontic removable appliance constructed on supplied model in accordance with information supplied. Download prescription HERE.  
c. a short written piece of between 300 and 500 words on the criteria used in both the design and selection of materials for the free choice piece. 
The judges are nominated by the OTA Council, to include the President.

Aldridge MedalAldridge Medal Logo 
Following a generous donation by one of the association's founders, Bert Aldridge, the Aldridge Medal was launched in 2007. It is the first award to be run solely by the OTA. This award is designed to encourage members to present new research and developments in the field at the annual OTA conference. The best lecturer at the conference, as judged by the delegates who are present and are also members, is awarded the Aldridge Medal.

OTA Conference Sponsored Student Places. 

OTA Conference 2016 – Nominations for sponsored student places.
The OTA will fund a maximum of 30 places for day delegates at the Annual Conference on Saturday. These places are open to:
1.     All trainee/student dental technicians currently enrolled on a registered dental technology college course.
2.     Anyone commencing an advanced qualification, specialising in orthodontic technology within 2 years of completing their Dental Technician Qualification.
Nominations will be accepted (details below) from any college/educational institute representative, providing a course in dental technology, or from any member of the OTA, who oversees the training of someone fulfilling the above criteria. Nominations will be considered on first come first served basis.
The successful nominees will receive a Day Delegate Package as noted above. Although this covers attendance at all Saturday lectures and lunch, successful candidates will be required to fund their own Travel.
In return the successful nominees will be expected to assist the OTA council members during the conference. They will also be expected to provide a short written piece for the OTA newsletter discussing the conference and experience gained from attendance.

A £10.00 deposit is required with each nomination and this will be refunded during the conference to those successful and attend, all unsuccessful nominees  deposits will be destroyed or returned by request.
